![]() ![]() That means I shoot in sRGB, which isn't so great to edit versus the Raw. My E-PL2 is my go-everywhere camera, so I've fine-tuned my JPGs to print nicely right off the card at a photo lab. But when a quick Raw conversion is needed, OV3 isn't bad. If this isn't the case, look up the procedure for doing a Hard Reset. You should have full control in the other modes. ![]() It's only a guess, but I suspect you're in iAuto. What mode is your camera set to - M, S, A, P, iAuto? The gradation setting is something different! Maggie's Camera edited this topic 101 months ago. I'm not sure why it is greyed out in the program but can only suspect it is because you don't have that function in your camera. On the OMD cameras, you can control the curve with the front and rear dials and it does affect both the ORF and the JPG files but only if uploaded into OV (not other software like Aperture C1 etc - though I don't know about Lightroom). Now, are you saying it is greyed-out on the camera or in OV3 ?ĭo you have a multi-function button set up? If so - this is where you will find the highlight/shadow function, which looks like a tone curve on the camera's screen or EVF. What are you trying to do in post with the highlight info? OV3 is probably my least favourite raw developer after SilkypixĪ lot of data other than the actual raw picture is transferred to the editing software (in sidecar file, as is a jpeg thumbnail) but I have no idea how software would be expected interpret shadow/highlight levels from the camera. If it is greyed-out then you have some other setting switched on that is preventing its use. I think that is all it is supposed to do, so you can then adjust your EV accordingly. ![]() (buried in Custom Menu "D" "Info Setting" "LV-Info" "Highlight&Shadow"=ON) The Highlight&Shadow function should cause blown-out highlights to flash red (E-PL1) on the LVF 'review' when highlights are blown out. Shooting in raw and raw+jpeg disables a lot of the clever camera functions that you bought the camera for. It doesn't make sense that it's available for your E-PL1 but not my E-PL2. There must be something else that can activate it. was off, so I turned it on.Īfter doing that, as well as changing the gradation setting to Auto, the ORF file still has the Highlight/Shadow Control greyed out in Olympus Viewer 3. What I do have that affects the image is a setting for gradation (under Picture Mode) which I have set at Normal, It also seems to be for controlling display on the LCD, not control of the file itself. Not got E-PL2 but do have E-PL1 and that does have highlight/shadow buried in Custom Menu "D" "Info Setting" "LV-Info" "Highlight&Shadow"=ON. Knowing when to shoot raw is probably the thing. Otoh I've seen raw developed that should have been binned and developed raw 'published' and/or posted up that are worse than their sooc jpeg (typically an 'orrible mauve tinge) and should have been left on the lightroom floor. May get an IR conversion or I may pass it along.įyi, you /can/ re-process jpeg in the same way as raw but you don't have quite as much info and it's lossy but you can recover a dodgy jpeg to some extent. The E-PL1 is too old and slow to mess about developing raw files. With the E-PL1 I need the Histogram turned on to judge highlight blowout. Not got E-PL2 but do have E-PL1 and that does have highlight/shadow buried in Custom Menu "D" "Info Setting" "LV-Info" "Highlight&Shadow"=ONĪlso have E-PL7 and that displays Highlight and Shadow before shooting (rather like Zebra). when I load an ORF, it knows how I shot it. You may have to have highlight/shadow turned on at the camera as it probably needs the info put into the sidecar file in the ORF (a raw file is a container file, there will be the actual picture data but also shooting data) i.e. If I need shadow/highlight recovery, I just open the 16bit TIF in ACR and do it there. But it would be nice to have it in OV3 where the raw has a bit more latitude.ĭoes anyone know how to activate it? Or is the E-PL2 just not supported for that feature?Īnd if it isn't supported, what models are? I understand the Highlight and Shadow function for older camera models was added in v1.2 but I still can't seem to see how to activate it. and am using it for E-PL2 ORF conversions. ![]()
